In the Beginners Sewing course we start from scratch and take you step by step through all the essentials to make learning to sew a fun and inspiring experience.
This course is perfect for complete beginners, where you will learn how to use the sewing machine competently and how to sew a skirt to your own size.
We provide all the tools, materials and supplies you need to learn.
If you have your own sewing machine, don't leave it at home! So you can learn to sew on it.
Important information:
- Prerequisite: none, complete beginners welcome.
- Courses start with a minimum of 6 participants. If the group does not fill up, the booking can be rescheduled free of charge to another date or programme at least 14 days before the start date.
- For the skirt, you bring the fabric you like, initiated (!) and the necessary accessories.

What will you learn on the course?
Theory (in plain language, with many examples):
- basic sewing terminology
- types of needles, threads, materials and their applications
- fabric direction, stitching, patterning basics
- how to choose the right textile for a garment
Practice (step by step):
- sewing machine parts, operation
- threading, stitch adjustment, basic troubleshooting
- use of multiple stitches and seam finishes
Making small objects:
- earbag
- NES with zipper
- basic techniques: hemming, tapering, cleaning, zipper sewing
Final project: at the end of the course, you will make your own tailor-made skirt.
